Professor Olatunji Abanikannda, a don at the Lagos State University has called on the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration to respect and propagate the vision and mission of the citadel of learning by accommodating the human resources from the state-owned varsity in its research and education based appointments.
Citing recent appointments by the State government, Prof Abanikannda averred in a statement made available to BlackBox Nigeria that such appointments with less focus on LASU are sending wrong signals on how the Citadel of Learning is classified within government circle.
He said, “First it was the appointment of Governing Council members for the State owned Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and I was shocked that unlike what happened before, where the University (LASU) have a nominee on the Governing Council of AOCOED, it was rather a Staff member of the Federal Government owned University of Lagos that was appointed on the AOCOED Council.
“It is equally a known fact that the current Chairman of LASU Governing Council is a serving member of staff of UNILAG. The latest appointment of the Deputy Vice Chancellor of UNILAG as the Chairman of the Lagos State Research and Innovation Council is to further tacitly confirm the superiority of UNILAG to LASU more so when we have an erudite LASU Professor on the same Council, ” he stated in his statement.
He further stated that rather than to castigate government on its appoint, his position is to reawakening the consciousness of LASU Community by asking a germane question about whether the institution is losing the fame and respect that once made it a bastion and bedrock of Human Capital Development base for Lagos State civil and public service.
