Don’t Politicise Relief Packages in Lagos, PDP Tells Sanwo-Olu

Engr. Deji Doherty, the chairman of the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday raised an alarm over alleged attempt by the members of the All Progressives Congress to play politics with the distribution of relief materials to the “vulnerable”.

This was confirmed in a press statement, where the chairman stressed the need for the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to avoid a situation where the project will be politicized, through selective distribution of palliative to residents of the state.

“Some of the PDP party chairmen in the Local Government Area and Local Council Development Areas pointed out to me that the Lagos State Government Initiative to distribute food items was being distributed by APC stalwarts in a partisan manner.

“As the chairman of the main opposition party in the state, it is my duty to bring this abnormality to the notice of the governor and the commissioner in charge of the distribution.

“Lagosians are aware that the palliatives were donated through the intervention of the federal government, state government and private individuals. They are aware that the items did not come from APC members, and as such it is only proper that they be distributed without bias of favoritism.” Engr. Deji said.

Blackboxnigeria in earlier publications reported that the Federal and State Government had provided relief materials for citizens necessary to help them survive through the 14 days lock-down imposed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President while addressing the nation on Sunday night imposed a 14-day lock-down on Abuja, Lagos and ogun state as a measure to contain the novel COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus which was first identified in Whuan, China, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control now has over 173 cases, with 2 deaths and 9 discharges in the country.
