Doguwa Clashes With Saraki Over Proscription Of IPOB

Senate President, SenatorBukola Saraki’s opinion of faulting the proscription of Indigenous People of Biafra by both the Nigerian Army and South East Governors has gotten a negative reaction from the House of Representatives Chief Whip, Hon Alhassan Garba Doguwa.

It will be recalled that the Defence Headquarters on Friday September 15th labeled the IPOB group a “terrorist organisation” thereby declaring all their open activities illegal.

In reacting to this development, Senator Saraki had called for peace within the zone as he said the Senate will investigate happenings that have generatedcrisis, especially in Abia State. He also blamed the Army and Governors in the geo-political zone for declaring the secessionist group a terrorist one.

But, Hon Doguwa would have none of that as he said the statement by the Kwara State former Governor was a political one to gain attention. He said the lawmaker was rather crying more than the bereaved as the Governors that were closer to the group had flagged down their activities.

He said, “For me, the recent comment made by the Senate President on this matter was a mere political statement that would only portray him as a controversial leader. I am sure the senate president was only expressing his personal opinion, which I further believe was not a good one in the given circumstances.

“The Nigerian Armed forces in my opinion are doing their best professionally and in the best interest of a united Nigeria.”
