Davido to giveaway all N200m gifted him to orphanages, adds personal N50m

Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke better known as Davido has decided to donate the N200m he received from close friends and associates with a personal addition of N50m to orphanages across Nigeria.

Recall that BlackBox Nigeria had reported that DMW boss took to his Instagram page to ask his “friends” to send him a million naira each. The singer made around N200million as sent into the Wema Bank account he opened for the purpose.

Amid mixed reactions that trailed the news, Davido has declared his intentions to give the donations away. This was contained in a statement posted on his verified Instagram page on Saturday, titled, “Donation of NGN 250,000,000.00 To Orphanages Across Nigeria.”

In the statement, Davido thanked his friends, fans, colleagues, others who donated for the kind gestures.

It read, “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my friends, colleagues, fans, and the public for the generous expressions in recent days.

“In my usual playful manner, I requested a few days ago that my friends and colleagues send money in celebration of my birthday.

“The response and outcome exceeded my expectations, as i received about N200M in less than 2 days. I truly appreciate everyone who donated hard-earned funds and I am very thankful for your generosity.”

Making his intentions to donate the funds, the “If” crooner said he has always been passionate about lending a helping hand.

Davido said, “In view of this, I am delighted to announce that all the funds received, totalling N200m will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation.

“In addition, I will be making a donation of N50M bringing the total amount to N250M.”

The statement also revealed that a 5-person disbursement committee has been set up to oversee the distribution of funds to the beneficiaries.

“Members of the committee include, Mrs Titi Adebayo (Chairman Committee), Professor Jonathan Nwosu (Secretary), Professor Joel Yakubu Asabe, Professor Dr. Oyalabu, and Professor Uloma Onuoha,” it added.

Again, it stated that the committee will compile the list of orphanages, determine their number and divide the funds accordingly.

It further disclosed that in a bid to achieve transparency, the names of the beneficiaries will be published, including the amount received.

The music star noted that the goal of the fundraising is to make it an annual occasion to celebrate his birthday and give back to needy people.

He said, “My goal is to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need. It is my hope that my friends, fans, colleagues, in the industry and the public will continue to support me as I drive this cause.”
