Corruption: EFCC Invites Spy Chief, Oke Over $43.45 Cash

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday invited the former Director General of National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke for his involvement in  $43.45m cash which eventually got him sacked by President Buhari.

BlackBox Nigeria learnt that Wednesday invitation is the second the anti-graft agency will be sending to Oke as he was first invited the operatives of the Commission discovered raw cash amounting to $43.45m in an Ikoyi mansion. Oke however didn’t honour the invitation even though he was on suspension after the money was recovered from the supposed ‘safe house’ of the spy agency.

The new invitation is coming barely 48 hours after Oke was sacked from his position. BBN gathered that the Presidency had ordered the anti-graft agency to continue with investigation involving him and Babachir Lawal, which was also sacked on Monday.

According to the spokesperson of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, Amb Oke has been re-invited along with his wife, Mrs Folashade Oke as the Commission continues to investigate the issue of the cash found in Ikoyi apartment.

He said, “In furtherance of its investigative activities to unravel the circumstances surrounding the $43.45 million cash recovered by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Lagos sometime in April 2017, the Commission has invited former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayodele Oke and his wife, Folashade Oke.
Mrs. Oke had refused to honour previous invitations by the Commission which resumed its investigation into the matter, following the Federal Government’s decision to relieve Mr. Oke of his position as DG.
Beside the couple, other suspects are equally being invited to determine their culpability or otherwise in the humongous cash, in foreign currencies and naira notes, stashed in a residential building at Osborne road Ikoyi, Lagos,” Mr. Uwujaren said.
