BVN: Billions Of Dollars Idle Away In Nigerian Bank Accounts As Owners Stay Away

Billions of Dollars have been abandoned in several accounts domiciled in commercial banks across the country since the introduction of the Bank Verification Number, an exercise that links all accounts to the real owners.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the sum up to $2bn (N730bn) have been orphaned by some individuals who might have been involved in shady deals using pseudo names and addresses which they have since left unattended to.

Reports gathered revealed that the abandoned money is currently being used by the commercial banks to trade without no real owners, a development analysts have faulted, calling on the Federal Government to issue an order directing the Central Bank of Nigeria to take over possession of the money.

BBN gathered that persons who before the implementation of the BVN policy operated several accounts have distanced themselves as they failed to link them up to their main accounts, leaving the proceeds to the commercial banks.
