BBC sponsors field trip to train LASU students on journalism

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) have sponsored a week-long fully paid field trip for five students of the Lagos State University School of Communication (LASUSOC).

According to a statement by the varsity, the trip was facilitated by BBC Africa’s journalist, Damilola Oduolowu, an alumnus of the School, and took place between Monday, August 1 and Friday, August 5, 2022 in Lagos.

The students are Adegboyegun Temiloluwa Israel, Okaforwetife Esomchi Anthony, Udoh Elsie Abidemi, Thomas Gloria Omowunmi and Fathia Muhammed.

For five days, they were camped in the Victoria Island area of Lagos, and exposed to practical aspects of journalism by some of the best journalists from the global media house.

The five were selected after a seminar organised by the BBC for 100 level students at the School in ealier in May, where the freshmen were guided on questions around journalism and its prospects.

While thanking Oduolowu for facilitating the programme, the LASUSOC Dean, Prof. Sunday Alawode described the one-week field trip as one that would significantly benefit the students and prepare them for the exciting future of journalism.

The varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello also congratulated the students and charged them to ensure that experience from the training becomes a permanent part of them.
