Andy Ruiz Jr Demolishes Anthony Joshua After 7 Rounds In Madison Square, NY
California based 29-year-old Mexican, Andy Ruiz Jr has dethroned the WBA, IBF and WBO king, Anthony Joshua after a seven round bout in Madison Square Park, New York.
The British-born-Nigerian hero was demolished after being dropped a staggering four times before being pulled out by Mike Griffin ,the referee before end of seventh round. It was learnt that Ruiz took up the challenge on short notice after several potential rivals rejected the fight.
Joshua gained his grounds in the second round as his first scoring punches in the first minute of the round landed twice with a short left hook and later a stiff jab. He was also top in the next round as he raced through the gears and dropped Ruiz with a murderous uppercut.
Ruiz however managed to take Joshua by surprise in following rounds till the seventh when referee Mike Griffin put an end to the match thereby created an upset in the history of boxing as bookmakers never predicted the underdog had a chance of defeating Joshua.
Ruiz, a native of southern California, became the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a heavyweight title as he captured Joshua’s IBF, WBA and WBO titles with excessive force and heart.
The upset was arguably the biggest within the division since Hasim Rahman stopped Lennox Lewis in 2001 and brought back memories of James “Buster” Douglas’ 1990 win over Mike Tyson
