Pastor Prosper Obum Igboke, a 30-year-old pastor of a Pentecostal church, tragically took his own life in Nnewi, Anambra State.

According to sources close to the matter, Pastor Igboke ended his life by jumping from a two-story building after reportedly being jilted by his lover.

The pastor had invested not only his emotions but also his resources in the relationship, having supported his lover’s education all the way through university.

However, his hopes for a shared future were dashed when his lover declined his marriage proposal.

Stricken with grief and despair, Pastor Igboke chose to end his life in a shocking manner that has left the community bewildered.

A relative of the deceased, who spoke to Daily Post on condition of anonymity, revealed that the community was taken aback by the tragedy.

The relative expressed surprise that a young man, particularly a pastor, would resort to such a drastic step.

“The man was 30 years old at the time of his death. His girlfriend, whom he intended to marry disappointed him after seeing her through the university.

“He jumped down from a two-story building and died. I am surprised that a man of his age and a pastor can do this.”

The incident has sparked conversations about mental health and the emotional toll of romantic disappointments, even within religious contexts.

The community’s customs also came into play, as per reports.

The tradition of the Leru autonomous community of Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State dictates that for committing sacrilege, the deceased should be buried in a forest.

Following this tradition, Pastor Igboke was laid to rest in a secluded bush on Friday, as confirmed by the same source.
