All you need to know about new Covid-19 strain, ‘Flurona’

While the world prepared to say goodbye to 2021 amid the ongoing fight against Delmicron variant of Covid-19 — a combination of Delta and Omicron strains — Israel, on Thursday, reported its first case of “Flurona”, the double infection from coronavirus and flu.

In this piece, BlackBox Nigeria highlights things you should know about the Flurona variant of coronavirus.

1. Flurona virus is a double infection from coronavirus and influenza. It derived its name from the words, “flu” and “coronavirus”.

2. The first case of Flurona variant of coronavirus was discovered in a woman who recently put to bed at the Bellinson hospital in Petatch Tikva, Israel, on Thursday.

3. Health authorities disclosed that several other patients who are yet to be diagnosed have also reportedly contracted the virus in Isreal.

4. Patients who test positive for Flurona virus exhibit similar symptoms of Covid-19 like fever, body ache, cough, sneezing, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, headache, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

5. The Israeli Health Ministry is currently examining the Flurona variant to see if the two infections could cause a more serious sickness, according to local press reports.
