Ajayi Crowther University Expels Students over dispute relating to stolen phone

Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, has expelled several students following the tragic death of a fellow student identified as Alex Timilehin in a dispute over a stolen phone.

The university announced this decision in a statement on Sunday, May 26, 2024, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct. According to the statement “The University has zero tolerance for any sort of anti-societal vices and misconduct. It is important to stress that the expelled students do not belong to any cult group, the University has taken swift action by handing over all the students involved to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation, with the assurance that justice will be served.”

The expelled students have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation. At least six students are now in police custody after the murder of Alex Timileyin.

It was reported that the detained students attacked Alex after allegedly catching him with a missing iPhone 12 Pro Max on Friday night, May 24, 2024. The students, who reside in Shepherd’s Inn hostel, stripped the victim, shaved his head, and collectively assaulted him from 10 pm on Friday to 6 am on Saturday.

He was abandoned in the rain, where he passed away. Alex, a 200-level Engineering student, was discovered dead in front of the hostel on Saturday morning.
