Xejet Airlines, a Nigerian business class-only carrier operating out of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, encountered a runway mishap when its Embraer 145 medium-range aircraft slid off the runway at the airport’s domestic terminal.

The incident, occurring barely weeks after a similar occurrence involving a Dana Airlines aircraft, has raised concerns over aviation safety protocols at the bustling airport.

With 52 passengers and crew aboard the flight coming from Abuja to Lagos, veered off course upon landing, prompting the closure of Runway 18 to air traffic.

According to sources at the airport, the aircraft came to rest in the grassy areas adjacent to Runway 18 left, underscoring the severity of the incident.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) swiftly responded, confirming the occurrence via its verified Instagram account. The bureau’s ‘Go Team’ was promptly dispatched to the scene to oversee the safe evacuation of passengers and crew members.

As investigations into the incident unfold, Runway 18L remains closed to traffic.
