Following the illegal killing of Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem on the 25th of December, 2022, another officer of the Nigeria Police Force is in the news yet again for another report surrounding the extrajudicial killing.
The incident was narrated by OAP and media sensation, Kayode Oladotun, popularly known as Do2dtun, via his verified Twitter handle.
Do2dtun narrated that the incident which happened in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, involved a trigger-happy policeman, who also happens to be the uncle of the victim.
He said the policeman shot in the air on the night of 31st December to celebrate the crossover, but the bullet landed in the stomach of his 5-year-old niece.
He wrote, “A mother that lost her husband a year ago came to Nigeria with her 3 kids, chose to celebrate at their dad’s in the village to mark his remembrance, but a policeman ruined it. He shot in the air. The bullet pierced the girl’s stomach. They didn’t even know until later. She died.
“How do you explain to yourself or anyone that you brought a child to Nigeria but you are not taking her back? The next question is “why”. Then you would say she was killed by a policeman by mistake or what? How does that even sound? You lost your child to a trigger-happy policeman on New Year’s Eve. So tragic”, he added.
Dotun ended by condemning the act, calling for a total overhaul of the police force.
