Davido, the American-Nigerian afrobeats star, is facing another backlash from some of his fans and critics for expressing his preference for Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi in the debate over the greatest footballer of all time.

Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, performed at the 2023 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Awards, where he was interviewed by GOAL about his views on the rivalry between the two football legends.

Davido said he admired Ronaldo’s discipline and success, and that he personally liked him more than Messi.

He also revealed that he had a connection with Ronaldo, who followed him on Instagram and inspired his hit song Fall.

However, not everyone was impressed by Davido’s choice.

Some of his fans and followers took to social media to slam him for disrespecting Messi and showing ignorance about football. They called him names like “stupid”, “can’t sing”, and “clout chaser”.

This is not the first time that Davido has faced pressure for his opinions on controversial issues.

He recently deleted a promotional video for his signee, Logos Olori’s new song Jaye Lo, which offended some Muslims for showing men dancing outside a mosque.

Davido’s manager, Israel DMW, apologized to the Muslim community for the offensive video, but Nobel prize-winning author Wole Soyinka defended Davido’s right to use dance in a religious setting
