After much media hype, Tinubu fails to grace LASU convocation lecture

The management, students and the entire community of the Lagos State University were left in disappointment on Thursday morning following the absence of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the institution’s 25th convocation lecture.

The presidential hopeful was expected to deliver a lecture on the topic, “Global Trends: The Rightful Place of Nigeria in the World”. He was, however, represented by the deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat. The reason for Tinubu’s absence at the event was undisclosed at the time of filing this report.

This comes after weeks of media hype and anticipation by the LASU community on the former Lagos State governor’s invitation to the much-anticipated event which will also feature the award of Doctorate Degrees (PhD) and the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on prominent personalities.

The LASU management had shifted the lecture from Tuesday, March 22 to Thursday, March 24 “due to an equally important State assignment that will take the attention of not only the University, but also Lagos State as a whole.”

The event, which is presently ongoing at the Buba Marwa Auditorium Complex in the university’s main campus in Ojo, has in attendance the Visitor to LASU and Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his Kano State counterpart, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa; the Special Adviser to the President on SDGs, Mrs. Orelope Adefulire; royal fathers, among other distinguished guests and dignitaries.

The likes of Dabiri-Erewa, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, his Borno State countepart, Professor Babagana Zulum; Chairman of Ikeja Hotel Plc, Mr Goodie Ibru (OON) and Founder/CEO, The Chair Centre Group, Mrs Ibukunoluwa Abiodun Awosika will be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees.
