While Nigerians continue to react to the painful defeat in the hands of host, Cote D’Ivoire at the finals of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, it appears it is not all bloom for the three-time champions as they are set to receive what has been described as a significant financial boost.

For coming second and carting home a silver medal, Nigeria is also set to earn a $4 Million cash reward from the continental football body, CAF.

It was gathered that the President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions.

Reports show that the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to $ 7 million is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money.

Despite the disappointment of losing to Ivory Coast in the final, Nigeria’s achievement of reaching the ultimate stage of the competition has not gone unnoticed.

The $4 million prize money serves as a testament to Nigeria’s commendable performance in the tournament, reflecting the team’s hard work and dedication.

The prize money will hopefully serve as an instrument for the development of the country’s sporting activities, especially football. Supporting this, the CAF President said, “I am confident that a portion of the prize money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our member’s association with their administration”
