Abia PDP Guber Candidate Dies After Brief Illness

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Prof. Uche Ikonne has been declared dead.

Ikonne was reported to have been sick and receiving medical treatment outside the country since November 2022.

In a statement by his son, Dr. Uche Ikonne Chikezie issued on behalf of the family, it was disclosed that the guber candidate died at the National Hospital, Abuja on Wednesday, January 25.

He also mentioned that his late father has been recuperating after receiving treatment in the United Kingdom.

The statement reads, “I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Prof Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who died at the National Hospital Abuja today, 25th January 2023 at 4 am after a brief illness.

“He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests from which he didn’t recover.

“Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family.”

The Nation reports the death has thrown many of the party faithful in a panic state.

Abia PDP is yet to make an official statement on the development at the time of filing this report.
