Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua,

 

BlackBox Nigeria reports that prominent Nigerians are celebrating the memories of former president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who died in office nine years ago today.

 

The one-time Katsina State governor is revered as one of the president committed to the growth of the country and by far the best leader since the return to multi-party democracy in 1999.

In eulogizing the Late President, his vice did not leave any stone unturned when he took to his official Twitter handle to extol the virtues of Yar’Adua describing him as a man who truly gave voice to the voiceless and preached nationhood in no small measure.

Jonathan said this in a series of tweets to mark the ninth anniversary of the demise of the late president.

 

 

Recall that Yar’Adua died in 2010 and Jonthan, who was then vice-president, succeeded him.

 

 

The former president further described Yar’Adua as a man with a humble spirit.

 

 

According to him, the late president used public service to build bridges of love and give hope to Nigerians.

 

 

“On this day nine years ago I lost a friend, colleague, brother, and boss, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He was a selfless leader who placed national interest above personal and ethnic gains,” Jonathan tweeted.

 

He tweeted further,

 

“President Yar’Adua was a man of integrity with a humble spirit who always took upon himself the burden of national reconciliation, peace-building, and democratic consolidation.

 

“He used the opportunity he had in public service to build bridges of love, foster unity and give hope to Nigerians.

 

“Today, I remember and celebrate him for the works that he had done. Peace he lived for and homes of peace he built. Democracy he loved and democracy he nurtured.

 

“We will always remember you for your service. A servant leader truly you remain.”

In similar development, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, described the demise of Yar’Adua as the loss of a patriot.

 

He wrote,

This day, 9 years ago, Nigeria lost a patriot and a compassionate leader in President Umaru Yar’Adua. May Allah SWT continue to shine His Noor on his face. Amin.

 

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, hailed the late president as a selfless statesman and a great leader whose integrity is worth looking up to.

However, Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, remembered the president as one who was honest, truly democratic and always respected the rule of law.

 

Shehu Sani’s eulogy,

 

President Umaru Musa Yar’adua died on this day nine years ago.He was a honest man,a true democrat,respecter of the rule of law and a humble visionary.May Allah forgive his soul and grant him Aljanna Firdausi.Amin.

 

Yar’Adua was the second civilian president under Nigeria’s current constitution. He won controversial polls after his predecessor – Olusegun Obansanjo’s – plans to extend his stay from 1999 – 2007 got stiff opposition from the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

 

He took office in 2007 and led for 3 years. He died aged 58 in Saudi Arabia and was flown back for burial. The known cause of death was pericarditis- inflammation of a membrane around the heart.
