The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that all 25 people aboard its ATR 42 aircraft, NAF 931, died after the aircraft crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
The aircraft, which had five crew members and 20 passengers on board, was on a routine flight from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred on Monday, October 6, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, search-and-rescue operations were immediately activated after the aircraft went missing.
However, the Air Force said no survivors were found.
Among those killed were five crew members: Squadron Leader MI Aburime, Squadron Leader AP Man-Ugwueje, Flight Lieutenant IS Bako, Warrant Officer Abubakar A and Corporal Uguru HC.
The passengers included several serving military personnel as well as civilians.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the crash as a deeply painful moment for the Nigerian Air Force and the country.
He condoled with the families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims, assuring them of the full support of the Service.
The CAS has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The NAF urged members of the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information as the investigation continues.
It also said a condolence register had been opened at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja for government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, security chiefs and other well-wishers to pay their respects.
