The recent track released by Five Star Music artist Kcee on the 28th of December titled “Protect Us”,w hich Kcee has been raises dust in the social media space for allegedly sampling the song of veteran Nigerian Dancehall artist Marvelous Benji titled “Dem No Like Us”.
Kcee used the same chorus from the popular song “Dem No Like Us” word for word but changed the verses. Since the song has been out, nothing has been said or heard about Copyright from both parties. Has Kcee done the right thing by paying the Veteran artist for copyright? Or did Kcee do otherwise? These are the questions that are being asked by fans and lovers of music.
Recall when a similar scenario happened between Tekno and Danfo Driver over the song “Jogodo”. Danfo Drivers had to call Teckno out in public saying “Tekno is owing to them for making use of their song without consulting them”.The issue was later resolved by both parties, and Teckno posted a picture of himself and Danfo Drivers on his Instagram page with the caption “Love #slimdanfo”
