Yada’u divorces wife for insisting on voting for Buhari

This might sound funny but it is absolutely far from being a joke as a man identified as Abdullahi Yada’u has divorced his wife for insisting on voting for President Muhammadu Buhari.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that Yada’u is pained that his wife, Hafsat Sulaimon who is a die hard fan of Buhari has insisted on voting for the President who is the APC candidate in next month’s upcoming election.

The couple are residents in Kanam Local Government of Plateau state.

According Yada’u in an interview with BBC Hausa, he was not happy because she (his wife) still wants to vote for Buhari while he has since decided to vote for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar whom he also expects her to support. Rather than obeying him, she ran away to her parents’ house after they got involved in a fight where he slapped her.

According to Yada’u, “I told her that she must not vote for him but she insisted which led to a quarrel which attracted the attention of our neighbours, I slapped her and told her to choose between voting for Buhari and staying with me. She ran away.

“Later her parents called me and I narrated to them what transpired between us. But still my wife insisted on voting for Mr Buhari, that’s how I divorced her in the presence of her parents.”

On the other hand, the family of the estranged wife insists their daughter will not go back to Yada’u after he threatens her the way he did.

While speaking to BBC Hausa, her elder brother, Ibrahim Suleiman disclosed that this is not the first time they will be having an issue over elections. He also revealed that it was actually his sister who convinced Yada’u into voting for Buhari in 2015.

In his words, he said: “He really disgraced us. They have been having issues even in the previous election.

“She is the one that convinced him to vote for Buhari, now he insisted on voting for Mr Atiku Abubakar. We decided that we will not allow her to go back to him again”
