X has announced plans to discontinue its Revenue Sharing programme and replace it with a new system designed to reward creators who produce original content on the platform.
The social media company announced the change on Friday through its X Creators account, introducing the new Original Content Rewards programme.
According to X, the new initiative will reward creators whose work brings original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity and commentary to the platform.
The company said it would no longer accept new applications for the existing Revenue Sharing programme, while creators already enrolled would continue receiving payments for a limited period.
Existing participants are expected to receive three final payments, with two scheduled for August 14 and August 28. The final payment covering earnings through September 7 is expected around September 11.
X said existing Revenue Sharing participants would become eligible to apply for the new programme from September 8, subject to meeting the required conditions.
Under the Original Content Rewards programme, eligible creators will earn based on qualified impressions generated by their original posts, with payments made every two weeks.
X defined qualified impressions as unique views from Premium users on the Home Timeline, provided at least 50 per cent of the post is visible.
The company said repeated impressions from the same account, paid or promoted views, artificially generated impressions and fraudulent activity would not count.
To participate, creators must be at least 18 years old, live in a country where the programme is available and maintain an account in good standing.
They must also have either a personal or business account, subscribe to X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business, have at least 500 verified followers and record a minimum of 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the preceding 90 days.
X said creators would also be required to regularly publish original content to remain eligible.
The platform explained that qualifying content could include threads, videos, memes, graphics, illustrations, reporting, analysis, commentary and reactions that contribute meaningful value to existing conversations.
It warned that simply reposting another person’s work would not qualify unless the creator added substantial commentary, context, analysis, humour or creative transformation.
Minor alterations such as cropping, applying filters, adding borders or watermarks, changing speed or placing simple text over existing material would generally not be considered meaningful transformation.
X also said copied or substantially reproduced content, material downloaded and reposted from X or another platform without being created by the account holder, automated content, disinformation and misleading content would be excluded from the programme.
Creators who violate the rules could be temporarily or permanently removed from the rewards programme, depending on the seriousness of the violation.
The company also reminded creators that they are responsible for obtaining the necessary rights, permissions or licences when using material created by others.
X said the new programme was designed to recognise creators who initiate conversations, provide expertise, tell stories, produce entertainment and offer meaningful perspectives on the platform.
The first payment under the new programme is scheduled for August 28, while creators moving from the old Revenue Sharing programme and applying from September 8 are expected to receive their first payment under the new system on September 25.
