President Muhammadu Buhari is currently under fire on social media over his tweet reacting to the attack on Kuje prison in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
On Tuesday night, terrorists detonated explosives on the facility, and killed four inmates and a security operative.
Over 600 inmates, including Boko Haram terrorists, were said to have escaped from the prison, though authorities said some of them have been captured.
Buhari visited the scene of the attack on Wednesday afternoon, before he departed Nigeria for Dakar, Senegal.
The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) had reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a tweet shared on his verified Twitter page on Wednesday, the president blamed the intelligence systems for the incident, and queried how terrorists were able to successfully attack a security installation and go scot-free.
“Saddened by the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje. I am disappointed with the intelligence system. How can terrorists organize, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it? I am expecting a comprehensive report on this shocking incident,” he wrote.

However, the tweet has sparked outrage from Nigerians on the microblogging platform, as many slammed Buhari, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces — who is supposed to secure the country — for putting out such comment.
Here are some of the reactions:
Nigerians really wasted 8yrs of their lives.
The commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces (Land, Air and sea) asking us on Twitter how attack take happen.
8 full years wasted. https://t.co/y82wFkmwGG

After everything, this is what the supposed C-in-C is asking ordinary Nigerians. Talking like an ordinary beer parlor customer. https://t.co/BVgDfrI4dh

You should be disappointed in yourself as the C-in-C first. You've failed this country and you're the worst president ever https://t.co/JHF5JNxGVt

It took you years to move from being shocked to being disappointed, this attack and that of your convoy is a sign that we are in deep trouble and at this point, its safe to say you are the worst commander in chief in the history of this country. Mr President, do your job please. https://t.co/Ccttqnu55h

After over seven years of leading Nigerians through their worst nightmare, this sounds like a sad attempt at sarcasm. You can’t be disappointed in the nation’s “intelligence system” because, as the C-in-C, you are the head. So, this means you are merely disappointed in yourself. https://t.co/Nuws6hOCE1

Buhari @MBuhari you should weep & be disappointed in yourself. Even your enemies never thought you would be a pathetic failure on the issue of security.
You decided to appoint mostly those you share ethnicity, religion, region with than those with competence to get the job done https://t.co/rczryCmuA8— Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) July 6, 2022
Let me help you further, Mr. President.
How could the Kuje military checkpoints be deserted during & after the attack? How could prison security personnel disappear? How could terrorists have a whole 15mins to preach in the prison?
And what will you, as C-in-C, do about it? https://t.co/U09yOaG77l

The Heads of the Police, SSS, Interior Minister and the Defence Minister should have been fired for this security breach but you will do nothing other than send media aides to come and ask us questions on Twitter as though we are in charge of the country. Disgraceful. https://t.co/xQe2hOPReu
