Victims abducted during the deadly terrorist attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after spending several months in captivity.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kwara State and Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Abubakar Danladi, confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying the victims are currently at the Wawa Military Cantonment in neighbouring Niger State before being transported to Ilorin.

Danladi said he could not confirm whether any ransom was paid for their release but expressed gratitude that the victims had finally regained their freedom.

“They have been released and are at the Wawa Military Cantonment because they were among several victims freed. The Kwara State Government is making arrangements to bring them back home,” he said.

The lawmaker representing Gwanabe/Gweria/Bani/Adena Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, also confirmed the release, describing it as a moment of great relief.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and security agencies for their roles in securing the victims’ freedom.

The Kwara State Government also announced the development in a brief statement shared on its official Facebook page, thanking President Tinubu, security forces and all those involved in the rescue efforts.

The Woro community came under a devastating terrorist attack on February 3, 2026, leaving scores of residents dead and more than 170 people abducted or declared missing.

The incident was one of the deadliest attacks recorded in Kwara State this year and sparked widespread calls for improved security across the region.

The return of the victims marks a significant breakthrough after months of uncertainty for their families and the affected community.
