World Food Day: iCare Foodbank Marks Three Years of Monthly Distribution of Food Staple in Ikorodu Federal Constituency
It was a combination of rain and praises yesterday October 12, 209, as the iCare Foodbank founded by Rep. Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency ahead of the World Food Day, marked its 3rd year of existence. The foodbank was established on October 16, 2016 as one of the cardinal arms of iCare Foundation.
World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945, with this year WFD is being observed under the theme “Our Actions Are Our Future Healthy Diets for A #ZeroHunger World.”
According to the Director General of the iCare Foundation, Mayor Muyideen Sanwoola, the food bank in the last three years have been able to feed 18,000 thousand residents thus, contributing to the campaign to have Zero Hunger and balanced diet in the world by 2030.
“The iCare Foodbank gives sacks of non-perishable food to the vulnerable in our society i.e elderly, widows, unemployed, e.t.c and encourages the government to mobilize resources to fight hunger through its founder Hon Jimi Benson who is a Federal Lawmaker. Since the project commenced in 2016, the iCare Food Bank has been able to put food on the table of through over 18,000 constituents.”
The iCare Food Bank adjudged to be the first functional food bank in Nigeria buys food and grocery products and redistributes the items in a bag called ‘AAPO AANU or ‘MERCY BAG’ to individuals and vulnerable families in need within Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
With the third year celebration, beneficiaries through the years shower praises on Representative Babajimi Benson for his magnanimity in ensuring no family sleeps hunger in Ikorodu Federal constituency.
