Governor Nyesom Wike in a media parley aired on Channels, TVC, AIT, NTA earlier today revealed reasons behind his calling for the resignation of the Chairman of People Democratic Party (PDP).
During the interview, Wike said “PDP chairman, Ayu knew he was supposed to step down since the Presidential candidate is from the North but he didn’t and is adamant.”
Speaking further, he said, “Ayu also collected the sum of N1bn from one of the Governorship candidates in Lagos and didn’t deliver that money to the party account.”
The governor, at the media chat insisted that Mr Ayu must relinquish office for a southerner to ensure “inclusivity.”
He repeatedly described the leadership of the PDP as “arrogant” and added that “no party can succeed the president seat with arrogance.
Recall that the Wike group had accused Ayu of compromising the May 28 and 29 presidential primaries of the party through his conduct and as such, aligned with the Atiku campaign.
Also,Wike’s group is demanding the resignation of the national chairman but Mr Ayu has insisted he was elected for a four year term.
Meanwhile other PDP governors are also calling for Mr Ayu’s resignation to achieve a “regional balance”, since the party chairman and the Presidential candidate, Mr Atiku are both from the northern part of the country.
In the light of the internal crisis, Wike, Seyi Makinde, ex-Information Minister, Prof. Jerry Gana, Chief Bode George and other prominent members of the campaign council announced their withdrawal from Atiku’s campaign council after a meeting held in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
