A former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan has dismissed talks that Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike will dump the party.
Wike, who lost at the PDP presidential primary, had been at loggerheads with the leadership of the party after its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar overlooked him and chose the Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 polls.
Since then, the opposition party had been making efforts to pacify the governor whose recent closeness to members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is rumoured to indicate that he might work against the PDP at the forthcoming elections.
But Ologbondiyan insisited that Wike can freely associate with any politician as he pleases.
Speaking on Wednesday during a programme on Arise TV, the former PDP spokesperson said the Rivers governor won’t leave the malaria-stricken opposition party for the cancerous APC.
“People can come and see him, they can come and hold parties, they can come and discuss, they can come and analyse. They can discuss all manner of things. He remains a member of the party,” he said.
“What is important to us is that the burden that APC must not come back. Failure must not be reinforced. That is our position and if you look at Governor Wike, that has been his campaign since he became governor.
“Somebody (Wike) has said that PDP has malaria, APC has cancer. Is he going to leave malaria and go include cancer? I don’t want your party to fall for the gimmicks of the APC.”
