An aspirant for the position of General Secretary of the Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC), Comfort Oladunni Olafare has unveiled her plans for the office if she emerges.
Olafare, who is the immediate past Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of the community-based youth organisation, noted that she intends to bring her wealth of experience to the table.
“During my time in office as AGS, I didn’t only perform my constitutional duties but also made meaningful contributions to the success of the IYC in terms of programs, activities and overall projection,” she told BlackBox Nigeria.
She said her aspiration was borne out of the need to give back to the community which made her.
“Iām contesting on the basis of giving back to my community. Igbogbo, the land of cool beauty, has indeed contributed to my growth both at the state and federal levels. So, I see this opportunity as a golden one to give back to the community by using my network to project Igbogbo Youth Coalition beyond the shores of Igbogbo,” Olafare said.
She added that beyond her already defined responsibilities as a scribe, she would work collaboratively with the President and other executive members to ensure that the IYC structure is accessible for all, and that members are kept up-to-date on the activities of the organisation using all available channels.
Olafare, an alumnae of the Lagos State University, was the first female President of the Igbogbo Students’ Union. In 2019, she was appointed to represent Lagos West Senatorial District at the Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) where she was appointed as the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee.
She is the Executive Director of Save A Girl Initiative, a non-profit which seeks to protect the right of the girl child as well as nurturing females for self-actualization. She is also a board member of the Lagos State Judo Association.
Olafare, a seasoned youth advocate, is affiliated with several youth and community-based associations, where she has served or currently serving in different capacities.
