In a recent press briefing held at the national office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Yaba, Lagos, Mr. Patrick Areghan, the Head of the Nigeria Office, declared the release of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates.
Despite facing challenges related to insecurity and cash policy, WAEC relied on technological innovations, leading to the timely release of over 91 percent of the candidates’ results just 44 days after the completion of the exams.
Out of the 1,613,733 candidates who participated in the examination, a notable number of 1,361,608 candidates, which translates to 84.38 percent, attained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, regardless of English Language and Mathematics.
Furthermore, 1,287,920 candidates, making up 79.81 percent, achieved credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
However, amidst the achievements, the Council revealed that the results of 262,803 candidates are currently being withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice.
