By The Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja became a theatre of chaos on Tuesday night when some angry fans of Nigeria’s Super Eagles invaded the pitch and vandalised facilities after the team’s World Cup dream was ended by the Black Stars of Ghana.
The Nigerian senior national team will, unfortunately, be missing out of the list of teams to compete in Qatar 2020 following a 1-1 draw against the Ghanaians who won based on the away goals rule.
Recall last Friday, both teams had slugged it out in a thrilling game which ended in a goalless draw.
Seemingly angered by the Super Eagles’ failure to secure a place in the World Cup, a group of furious fans invaded the pitch from all sides — immediately the final whistle was blown. The ugly incident was captured in a now-viral video.
