Uyo Priest Suspends Church Members For Protesting Against State Government, Bishop Reacts

 

Reverend Richard Peter Edet, the Priest of The African Church, St Paul’s Parish in Eket on Wednesday suspended members of his church for participating in a potent against the State Government on Monday, August 14th.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that Uyo prominent lawyer, Mr Inibehe Effiong was among the members of the church who joined others to protest against the construction of a N9.1billion Governor’s Lodge in Lagos State.

The protesters had on Monday matched in their numbers to kick against activities of Governor Emmanuel Udom, whom they accused of ruling like a tyrant. The protesters enjoyed the protection of security officers in their course of agitation.

Reacting to the suspension of the members, the Bishop of the African Church, Uyo Central Diocese, Rt Reverend James O Bamidele nullified the suspension stating that members can only be suspended by the church’s hierarchy, not a single person like the priest.

The Bishop’s statement was released immediately on Wednesday after it gathered about the suspension of the members. The statement advised the members to continue with their regular activities.
