Popular Yorùbá comedian, Ozain, has apologized after being summoned by the Ìjọ Ọjẹ Parapọ̀ Welfare Association, a prominent Yorùbá masquerade cult, over a recent skit involving a Yorùbá masquerade.

Earlier, BlackBox Nigeria reported that the skit, which went viral, sparked widespread controversy and drew the attention of traditionalists who claimed it disrespected Yorùbá cultural and spiritual practices.

In the skit, Ozain portrayed a wealthy man who insults and disrespects a masquerade, considered a sacred and revered figure in Yorùbá culture.

The Ìjọ Ọjẹ Parapọ̀ Welfare Association condemned the skit, demanding that Ozain and his team appear before the head of masquerades in Ibadan to explain the intention behind the video.

However, Ozain has since apologized for any offense caused, acknowledging the importance of respecting cultural and spiritual practices.

In a Four minutes, sixteen seconds video, he tendered his unreserved apology for using such a reverred custom for skit and has promise not to indulge in any act of that nature.

This latest development shows the need for content creators to balance creative expression with cultural sensitivity, ensuring that comedy and satire do not cross the line into disrespect.
