Two suspected cultists met a tragic end when they were gunned down in an alleged reprisal attack in Ilesa town, Osun State.

This incident comes on the heels of heightened tensions in the area, with a recent clash resulting in the deaths of two more individuals.

The unfortunate event unfolded on Tuesday at approximately 2 p.m. at Sabo, Irojo Junction, Ilesa.

According to sources, the victims fell prey to suspected members of a rival cult group, who relentlessly opened fire on them.

These victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, were allegedly targeted in retaliation for the killing of two suspected cultists at a local beer parlor just days earlier.

Journalist Sodiq Lawal, who was present at the scene, shed light on the situation;

“Their bodies were picked up along the Ilesa/Akure expressway by the police this afternoon. We all ran for cover when we heard noise from the scene. The killing is a continuation of inter-cult rivalry going on in the Ilesa area in the last three days,” he reported.

The Osun Police Command, represented by spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident and expressed grave concern over the escalating violence. “More men have been deployed to the community, but you know police operatives can’t be everywhere. Perpetrators of the crime won’t escape justice,” Opalola vowed.
