Two Nigerian ‘love spell casters’ arrested in India
Two Nigerians identified as Okwuchukwu, 41, and Obiwuru Jonathan Uzaka, 35, who posed as love spell casters have been arrested in India after they allegedly defrauded a female Indian doctor of N6.6 million (Rs 12.45 lakh) over claims that they could provide solutions to her love problems.
The two suspects, both residents of Uttam Nagar in Delhi allegedly carried out the scam in collaboration with two others identified as Michala Ajunda and one Daniel who have been declared wanted by the police.
According to a report in Indian Express, the victim who was going through difficult times in her life met the Nigerians after she searched for “love spell caster,” online.
The lady, an ophthalmologist, told the police that when she contacted the accused, they informed her that they were “love spell casters” from Uganda and can perform prayers that will solve her love problems.
The police statement said, “The complainant who was seeking a solution to her love life problems and professional success had searched online for “love spell caster” and got the phone number of the fraudsters, she told police in her complaint.
“Based on her complaint, the police lodged a case and collected technical evidence. A special team led by Inspector J Narender Goud rushed to Delhi, arrested the accused and brought them to Hyderabad on transit remand.
“The accused have been remanded in judicial custody,” the statement added.
Police claim that the four accused came from Nigeria to India for a cloth business, but devised a plan to cheat gullible citizens to make money after they suffered loses in their business.
The accused persons also opened bank accounts through brokers and posted advertisements on social media platforms and Google along with their phone numbers offering services in astrology, love spell cast, and solutions for life’s problems,” the police added.
