Truth Social: Trump launches social media app to rival Twitter, Facebook

Truth Social, a social media app developed by former US President Donald Trump, has launched on Apple’s App Store.

This development marks the return of the ex-president to social media after he was banned by several platforms last year.

According to The Guardian, the app was available to download shortly before midnight eastern time and was automatically downloaded to Apple users who had pre-ordered the app. As of early Monday, Truth Social was the top free app available on the App Store.

Recall that Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube after he was accused of posting messages that incited the invasion of the Capitol Hill by his supporters in a bid to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The former president had earlier described Truth Social as an alternative to the above-mentioned platforms. The app says it is “America’s Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”

Devin Nunes, CEO of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of the new app, on Sunday, said the roll-out for iOS users will begin this week.

“I think, by the end of March, we’re going to be fully operational — at least within the United States,” Nunes told Fox News.
