Team Nigeria’s hopes of securing medals at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games have come alive, after several days since the competition began.
This feat was achieved by one of the wrestlers, Blessing Oburududu who fought her way into the Olympics final in the 68kg class, on Monday.
Blessing qualified for the final by defeating Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonboldyn 7-2 in Monday’s semi-final match, ensuring herself and Team Nigeria at least a silver medal.
Earlier in the competition, she made her intention — to secure a medal — known when she defeated Elis Manolova of Azerbaijan 13-2 in her first match. She would later go on to defeat Meerin Zhumanazarova of Armenia 3-2 in a hard-fought quarter final bout before beating Soronzonboldyn in the semi final.
