1. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said he would not hand over power to politicians who cannot win elections in their domains, adding that there is nothing that the country needs now other than peace. He made this known during an event in Kaduna on Saturday.

2. Members of the South East Governors’ Forum have distanced themselves from the agitations of secessionist groups in the region and other parts of the country.The governors of states in the region met on Saturday in Enugu State to deliberate on the ways to tackle isecurity and restore peace in the region.

3. Thousands of aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, dumped the party to form what they described as a “Third Force”. The Kwara Central Senatorial Chairman, Alhaji Abdulfatai Abdulrahman, while addressing the members, said their new party would soon be unveiled.

4. The Nigerian Navy has arrested 10 suspected vandals conveying 210,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, concealed in water tanks.

This was contained in a statement by the Information Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, Sub-Lt. Veronica Effiong, on Saturday.

5. The 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) kicked off yesterday with minor hiccups in few Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said that over 1.4million candidates were writing the 2021 UTME in over 800 CBT centres nationwide.

6. Many travellers were trapped on the Abuja-Kaduna highway yesterday as angry residents who were half naked, blocked the road over attacks, especially the killing of a 13-year-old girl by bandits. The tragic incident occurred at Anguwar Magaji in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

7. Three bakers have been arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command for supplying bread to bandits in the forest. One of the bakers nabbed, described the armed gangs terrorising residents of Kaduna and its environs as their best customers.

8. Operatives of the Police Rapid Response Squad, RRS, on patrol have arrested a Nollywood star, Mike Omoruyi, 37, with guns in his vehicle along Obiaruku/Umuebu Community in Delta State. The Delta State Police Command led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali, confirmed the report in a statement.

9. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced the re-training of personnel in order to ensure the safety of its crew, as part of efforts to tackle the incessant air mishaps in the Nigerian military.
