Three Workers Die in Lagos Building Collapse

 

A three-story building under construction has collapsed, claiming the lives of three site workers at Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, disclosed the incident at No 13, Wilson Mba St., Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos.

“The collapse occurred while the building was under construction,” he stated. “We received a distress call at 3:49 a.m. regarding the collapsed building, prompting our response team to mobilize immediately. Upon arrival at 3:58 a.m., it was determined that a set of three terraces under construction had collapsed.”

“Search and rescue operations began promptly, leading to the recovery of three deceased adult males. Two adult males were successfully rescued, while efforts are ongoing to free one adult male still trapped under the rubble,” he added.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted that the rescued individuals received initial medical attention on-site, and the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit has been informed to handle the fatalities. A joint effort involving LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police is currently underway at the scene.

He concluded, “LASEMA’s excavator has been deployed to expedite search and rescue operations.”
