Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has berated the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, describing the exercise as “a sham”.
BlackBox Nigeria had reported how the ex-governor who is backing a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, against his successor and incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, was roundly disgraced at the polls.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Sola Fasure on Saturday evening, the minister noted that he received reports of how members loyal to his faction of the Osun APC had their names removed from the party’s voters register which was not made available until the morning of the primaries.
Aregbesola, who is publicly working against Oyetola from getting the APC ticket, further accused the incumbent governor and his supporters of manipulating the exercise in their favour, according to the reports his faction received.
The minister stated that people without the party identification participated in the primaries, and votes were farcically counted in favour of the governor.
He, however, urged supporters to “leave the rest to the Almighty God” as they take legal steps in addressing the matter.
Meanwhile, Oyetola has emerged as the APC flagbearer in the July 16 governorship election.
The governor, who is seeking a second term in office, polled 222,169 votes while his closest challenger, Moshood Adeoti secured 12,921 votes and a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun had just 460.
This was according to the results announced by the Kwara State governor and chairman of the Osun APC primary election committee, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
