Tension as petrol tanker explodes in Lagos, razes houses, shops

There was palpable tension in the Alagbado area of Lagos in the early hours of Friday after a tanker said to be loaded with petrol crashed and caught fire.

The Punch reported that the inferno which occured at around 3am at Ajegunle Bus-Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, have razed several houses and shops, among other properties.

However, men of the Lagos State Fire Service are said to be currently at the scene to put out the fire from causing further damages.

According to a resident who spoke to the newspaper’s correspondent, the actual figure of casualties is yet to be determined, as several persons are feared dead.

“We cannot tell the number of those that died. The police and fire service have been working and trying to put out the fire,” the lawyer was quoted as saying.
