Tanzania President’s Husband Dies After Heart Illness

Tanzania’s First Gentleman, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died.

Hassan reportedly died on Monday while receiving treatment for a heart condition at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.

His death was announced by Tanzania’s Vice-President, Deogratius Ndejembi.

Hassan became Tanzania’s First Gentleman after his wife assumed office as president in March 2021.

The couple married in 1978 and had four children.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and authorities.
