Super Eagles Striker, Taiwo Awóníyì, has been ruled out of international duties for Nigeria for the second time this year, after Nottingham Forest manager, Uno Espirito Santo, confirmed that he picked up an injury some days before the club’s match against Luton Town.
Awóníyì who was out of last AFCON 2023 due to groin injury could also not be fit until April, implying that he will be ruled out of Nigeria’s friendlies against Ghana and Mali later this month.
According to reports, the extent of the injury has not been confirmed but Espirito Santo admitted that the injury was a huge blow for the City Ground giants.
“He had a problem during the week. It is a big blow for us, a big blow. I don’t know how long he will be out for”, he said.
The former Liverpool player sustained an injury in November and was rules out of matches for three months, forcing him to miss the AFCON.
He has missed 27 premier League games since he joined the club.
Awóníyì was last seen on international duties on November 16, 2023, during a world cup qualifier against Lesotho.
