Eight months after bagging an inspiring gold medal at National Sports Festival, Nigerian Taekwondo champion, Aminat Idrees has clinched the ‘Most Outstanding Young Person in Sport’ category at the Lagos Youth Awards.
She beat other nominees including FC Barcelona Femeni star, Asisat Oshoala, to win the award at the maiden event held on Sunday at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel, Lagos.
Also listed in the category are Anuoluwapo Opeyori (Olympian, Badmington) and Seun Nariwo (Former Table Tennis champ, Sports Administrator).
Idrees had risen to after claiming gold, silver and bronze medals in taekwondo while competing with eight months pregnancy, at the National Sports Festival held earlier in the year in Benin, Edo State.
Accepting the award at the event, the visibly elated Taekwondo champ appreciated the award organizers for the honour.
“I want to appreciate BBN360 for putting this together. Thank you, I very much appreciate,” she said.
Tagged “The Working Tribe”, the maiden edition of the Lagos Youth Awards celebrated 15 outstanding young people across different walks of life.
The COVID-19 compliant event had in attendance nominees, dignitaries, members of the political class, and industry bigwigs.
The award, designed to celebrate exemplary young people in the centre of excellence, is an initiative of BBN360, a thriving media company based in Lagos, Nigeria, in collaboration with some youth-based non-profit organizations.
