The newly Inaugurated Osun State Governor, Gov. Ademola Adeleke in what looks like a cleansing mission, has terminated the appointments of a large number of workers and dethroned three monarchs hours after his inauguration.
In a statement by the newly appointed Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Adeleke, Olawale Rasheed, made it known that the new Governor signed the Executive Orders which covered chieftaincy matters, appointment issues, setting up of review panels, staff audit, and employment matters.
The statement reads in part, “All employments in the service of Osun State Government made in any capacity into all the Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards and Parastatals after July 17th, 2022 and are hereby nullified.”
OSIEC Chairman
The State government suspended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, Mr. Segun Olaitan, and some of its members.
The suspension was due to several petitions ranging from financial impropriety, dereliction of absenteeism, and abuse of office by the Chairman and members of the commission.
The other members include Yusuf Oyeniran, Suibat Adibi, and Wahab Adewoyin.
It was also reported that the electoral body withdrew the Certificates of Return given to all elected officials in the last Local Government election conducted on the 15th of October, 2022. The statement was signed by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Adedapo Adejumo, on Monday, November 28.
The withdrawal of the certificate was a result of the court judgment which nullified the election. The election only fielded candidates from the then-ruling party, APC, and returned all of them unopposed.
Sacking Of Permanent Secretaries
The Governor also nullified the appointment of 30 Permanent Secretaries brought in by the erstwhile Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola.
Reports have it that the newly inaugurated Governor already made it known that the 30 Permanent Secretaries will be sacked when he assumes office.
The P.S were appointed barely a week before the end of Oyetola’s administration as Governor of the state.
Dethronement of Monarchs
The traditional officeholders were not left behind in the Governor’s cleansing operation, as 3 of its members were asked to vacate office. Report have it that the affected monarchs were appointed by the previous Governor.
The affected monarchs include Akinrun of Ikinrun, Oba Yinusa Akadiri; Aree of Ire, Oba Ademola Oluponle; and Owa of Igbajo, Oba Gboyega Famous, as they were ordered to vacate the palace, asking security operatives to take over.
