Speaker Gbajabiamila’s Ghana Visit Has Changed Basis Of Trade Wars – NIDO Vice President Reveals
The Vice President of Nigerians In Diaspora Organization (NIDO) in Ghana, Kingsley Attoe has stated that the recent trip of Nigeria’s Speaker, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila has changed the basis of trade wars between Nigeria and Ghana.
In a telephone interview with NAN, Mr Kingsley praised Speaker Gbajabiamila for his timely intervention stating that the 2-day working visit has changed the basis of the trade wars between the two West African countries and Nigerians in Ghana are waiting to the final outcome of the meetings.
He added that part of the outcome maybe the setting up of a Nigeria-Ghana Business Council as the Speaker has met with Ghanaian Speaker of Parliament and also traders of Nigerian origin.
Kingsley said, “Currently, Nigerians are waiting to see the outcome of the meetings he had. Two days ago, he met the speaker and Nigerian traders separately. Yesterday, he met with Nigerian business executives.
“There are talks about setting up a Nigeria-Ghana Business Council with the hope of domesticating it in both countries.
“NIDO believes more still has to be done. The problem is less of government-to-government but more of people to people.”
Kingsley further added that Ghana’s policy of $1m capital is unrealistic as most of the traders don’t even have stocks worth that much and hopes everyone will be given a leveled playing field.
“We need to look for a way to sensitise citizens of both countries to the need for Ghanaians to understand Nigerians and encourage Nigerians to invest more in their country,” Attoe said.
