Socialite Obi Cubana Opens Tricycle Assembly Plan In Ikorodu, Claps Back At Critics From South East

Obinna “Obi” Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, a Nigerian businessman and socialite has launched a tricycle assembly plant in the Ikorodu local government area of Lagos State, sparking criticism, particularly from the Southeast region of Nigeria.

Announcing the development on his social media platform, Obi stated the reasons why the plant wasn’t established in the Eastern part of the country.

In a statement, he emphasized, “Business decisions are not emotional but strategic. If setting up in Ikorodu ensures viability and job creation, why not start here? Expansion to other locations can follow based on proven success.”

His remarks, however, drew criticism from many in the Southeast. Mazi Obi Okoli expressed disappointment, stating, “Only Igbos always find reasons to do wrong. Why not Aba or another part of the East? It’s not sentiment but common sense.”

Another critic highlighted the success of Innoson Motors in the Southeast, questioning Obi Cubana’s explanation for not choosing a similar location.

They cautioned, “Tomorrow if Lagos State destroys your business, will you expect Igbo land to sympathize with you?”

Another user stated “Continue to invest in an area where the government might one day demolish everything”.

Responding to concerns, Charles Ochike questioned whether the assembly plant would affect tricycle prices nationwide, emphasizing that its impact matters more than its location.
