Six musicians you never knew were from Ikorodu

Ikorodu, one of the five administrative divisions of Lagos State, unknowingly to many, is home to a bunch of popular young musical talents that have taken the industry by storm in recent times.

This article takes you through six musicians you probably don’t know are from Ikorodu.

1. Seyi Vibez

Born in Ketu, Lagos State, Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi better known as Seyi Vibez, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.

He started his music career in Ikorodu. The young afro pop artiste makes his music in an indigenous style, popularly in the Yoruba language. He has buzzed up the streets with some of his hit songs such as ‘God Sent’, ‘Normally’, amongst others.

 

2. Qdot

Qdot Alagbe was born on 30th April, 1988 in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Although he was born and raised in Ikorodu, he describes himself as half Ibadan and half Lagos boy.

He attended United Senior High School, Ikorodu for his secondary school education. He would later proceed to study General Arts at Yaba College of Technology.

In 2013, Qdot rose to fame with his hot single, ‘Alomo meta’. He has since released over 25 singles over the past six years. His debut album, ‘Alagbe’ was released in November, 2020.

 

3. Sean Tizzle

Morihanfen Oluwaseun Oluwabamidele, popularly known as Sean Tizzle, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, recording artist, stage performer, actor and model.

He is originally from Ilaje, a small town in Ondo State, but grew up in Lagos and Ibadan respectively. Fourth child in a family of five children, he has three older siblings and one younger sibling. Although he was born in Ikeja, his family relocated to Ikorodu, where he grew up.

Sean Tizzle blew into stardom after releasing his hit single ‘Sho Le’, and has since dropped endless bangers and moved on to bigger things.

 

4. Mohbad

Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, who is professionally known as Mohbad, is a singer and songwriter. He was born on the 8th of June, 1996, and hails from Lagos State.

Mohbad was born and raised in Ikorodu where he completed his primary and secondary education.

He always had dreams for music from a young age but started professionally in 2016. He started to gain recognition on Instagram from sampling and making covers to hit songs, he made a cover for kizz Daniel’s hit song, ‘Fvck you’.

Slowly building his fan base, he got signed in December 2019 to Naira Marley’s Marlian records. He recently dropped a hit song, ‘Feel Good’.

 

5. Ajimovoix

Oguntade Adewale Damola, better known as Ajimovoix, is a music producer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.

He started musical passion started in church where he learnt to play various musical instruments such as percussions, keyboard guitars, talking drums and others.

Born and raised in Ikorodu, Ajimovoix gained wide attention for his creation of the “Focus dance beat” in 2020 which gained popularity after Instagram dancers, Hagman and Abati, made a special dance to it.

The beat, according to fans, has gone global as Grammy award-winning singer, Burna Boy danced to it on stage at his recently sold-out show at the 02 Arena, London.

 

6. Slimcase

Oluwafemi Oladapo Oko-Eko, popularly known as Slimcase, was born on the 21st of August, 1985.

He grew up in Ikorodu, Lagos where he started off as a comedian. According to Pulse.ng, music was not on his radar of things he planned on doing.

His friend, ace producer Beats by Sarz, was the first person to ever record his vocals in a studio in Akoka. He fell in love with music and started as a rap artist before capitalizing on the “Shaku Shaku” type of music.

Slimcase later released hit songs, ‘Oshozondi’, ‘Shepeteri’, amongst others. He went on to work with top stars such as Tiwa Savage, DJ Enimoney, Reminisce, 2Baba, and many others on some of the biggest songs in the country.

    Zlatan also grew up in Ikorodu in Agbede Olosugbo area of Ikorodu. I guess his mum still stay in that area
