‘Show of ignorance’ — ADC presidential candidate, Kachikwu’s camp rejects his suspension

The campaign organization of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu has reacted to his suspension by the party.

BlackBox Nigeria had reported that the party’s Deputy National Chairman (Politics), Dr. Bamidele Ajadi announced that Kachikwu was suspended over alleged anti-party activities, barely five months to the 2023 elections.

Ajadi had said the decision to suspend the presidential candidate was taken after an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held at an undisclosed location on Friday.

Reacting to the development, the spokesman of the Dumebi Kachikwu Campaign Organization, Adeniyi Kunnu, in a statement on Saturday, described the suspension as “mischievous” and “shallow”.

Kunnu noted that the emergence of Kachikwu as the ADC presidential candidate was validated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the next general polls, accusing the party’s leadership of creating needless crisis.

“It comes therefore as most simplistic and laughable poor intellection, that a certain crop of persons, under their ill-informed legal representation could make a poor showing of their ignorance in public space,” the statement read in part.

“The rifts that are evidently needless and of no concrete consequence must be trashed and discarded far from the focus-driven aspirations of His Excellency. The era where party leadership sets off on a journey of subterfuge, in which a major candidate is stifled for deciding on a path that is most ideal and of interest to all cannot be allowed a wink of countenance.

“The charade of the kangaroo parley, which led to a skewed and unfounded process of suspension without recourse to what has been validated by the electoral umpire called INEC is most mischievous and unarguably shallow.

“His Excellency Dumebi Kachikwu is unshaken as he toes the prerequisites of the guiding principles of the ADC rule book, even as he is equally assuring all ADC candidates across the country that everyone should ensure, that this path of equity and fairness is an ingredient of momentum for their campaigns.

“The era of party monarchy already has its coffin nailed and buried, because the Rescue Mission 2023 mandate of Dumebi Kachikwu has done away with every debris which hitherto had prevented the fertile soil of functional representation within the rank and file of the ADC.”
