Shina Peller dumps presidential ambition, declares for Senate

It appears a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Shina Peller has finally made a firm decision on his next political move, amid talks of his intention to contest for presidency in the 2023 elections.

Peller, who currently represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa constituency of Oyo State in the Green Chamber, has formally declared to run for the Oyo North Senatorial seat, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made this known while speaking at a conference organised by Coalition of Progressive Nigeria Youths held in Lagos, on Thursday.

The lawmaker also announced that he isn’t interested in joining the presidential race, as earlier clamoured by some youth groups across the country.

“These clamours have created mixed reactions because in Nigeria, we don’t think about people but only about ourselves. The reason I have come into politics is to help the people, not for my own benefit.

“But as great leaders, you will be forced to take risks, make sacrifices and also do things that will benefit the people.

“On that note, I declare my intention to run for a seat at the senate representing Oyo north senatorial district.

“I will not lead our youths into a war that we cannot win. Our party will most likely make use of indirect poll, which means the elections will be at the mercy of the delegates,” he said.

Peller added that he remains focused on the paradigm shift of power, urging young people to stay focused irrespective of individual ambitions.

Meanwhile, this development comes barely 24 hours after the lawmaker took to social media to plead for donations from Nigerians to fund his now-dumped presidential bid.
