Seun Kuti lambasts journalist, David Hundeyin; ‘obidients’ for mocking him over police detention

Seun Kuti has criticized journalist David Hundeyin and supporters of Peter Obi, referred to as ‘Obidients,’ for mocking him after a video surfaced showing him slapping a policeman.

The incident sparked mixed reactions and led to his arrest when he visited the state police command to see the commissioner.

Seun Kuti appeared before the Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos on May 13, presided over by Judge Adeola Olatubosun, on charges of assaulting a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

In a video statement delivered in pidgin English, Seun accused David Hundeyin of spreading lies about him. He also accused the ‘Obidients’ of trying to set him up during his eight-day detention in prison.

Seun stated, “He is the one who looked for trouble by referring to himself as an ‘Obidient.’ Are you an Obidient? I see the moves you people are making. The Obidients still wanted to set me up inside the prison.”

He expressed gratitude for the Ancestral Secret Service (ASS) for their protection during his time in the cell, claiming they ensured he was not bitten by mosquitoes. Seun criticized journalists, calling them fake and stating that they couldn’t support their claims because they had ulterior motives.

Seun also mentioned his previous claim of getting David Hundeyin kicked out of Oxford University, alleging that Hundeyin was expelled for alleged misconduct related to misogyny, sexism, and racketeering.

Regarding his own arrest, Seun clarified that he did not make any phone calls for his release, emphasizing that he had no connections with oppressors or godfathers. He questioned why the public showed more outrage over his case compared to the case of Orji Uzor Kalu, who was sentenced and later released.

Seun expressed disappointment with Nigerians for their response to his situation, asking, “Nigerians, who did this to you?”
